Good news: The EU sanctions to stop aviation fuel sales to the Syrian regime passed! Thanks to everyone who signed the petition! EU sanctions against Syrian regime strengthened As the Assad regime continues its brutal war against its own people, the Council today reinforced EU restrictive measures against the Syrian regime. Fourteen persons have been targeted over their responsibility for the violent repression of the civilian population. Two more persons and two entities providing practical support to the Syrian regime will also be subject to the restrictions, which consist in an asset freeze and, for the individuals listed, a travel ban. Todays decision brings the total of persons subject to EU sanctions against the Syrian regime to 211 and the number of entities to 63. The legal acts, including the names of the designated persons and entities, will be published in tomorrows EU Official Journal and will enter into force at the same time. In addition, the Council today reached a political agreement to impose an export ban on jet fuel and relevant additives being exported to Syria as they are being used for indiscriminate air attacks against civilians. The legal acts bringing this agreement into force are yet to be adopted.
