Good news for Sandy recovery and infrastructure investments today. One of the highlights is that Mastic and Shirley will receive sewer funds. The State announced a $20 billion statewide recovery plan including water quality and coastal resiliency. The NYS working group that made these recommendations held hearings in both Counties and determined that the primary water quality issue is nitrogen pollution. The initial recommendations $383 million for a Mastic and Shirley sewer district and Sewer expansion around Carlls River in Great South Bay, Connetquot River and the Patchogue River. In Nassau the $97 million in NYS funds will fast track the Federal funds for Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant. The project will set up support for an ocean outfall pipe. Finally the Mastic and Shirley community will see an investment of federal and state funds. This was a long time coming for the work of all of the civic, environment, business and government leaders in the Tri-Hamlet community. Vision was at the announcement and has worked in partnership with the numerous organizations and government leaders for years to help move this forward. Kudos to Governor Cuomo and his team, County Executives Ed Mangano and Steve Bellone for putting these proposals forward in Washington. Great partnership for LI as Congressman King, Bishop and Senator Schumer then secured the funds. Great day for LI.
