Good news for me yesterday!! As many know I am 47, The last few years I the jobs I ended up in had me tied to a chair. I have DJD Degenerative Joint Disease which is basically a form of Arthritis. I found out I had it in Basic Training years ago and was told I could get discharged if I wanted. At the time I was 13 weeks into a 14 week OSUT One Station Unit Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I had basically made it. I asked the doctor What can I not make it through a Military Career? His response was Sure your just going to hurt more than the average Joe So I stayed. So recently at the last few jobs due long hours and bad seating and being posted in cheap ass chairs and hard concrete floors, a ligament in my right leg damn near had me lame. Ergonomics are very important!! Also Diet plays into the picture as well as the lack of exercise. The last few years my doctors had been telling me that my cholesterol and blood pressure were going to kill me if I did not make some Life changes. Everytime I went to the doctor my blood pressure was through the roof to the point where I was getting bloody noses often and could not get them to stop. I had a broken blood vessel in my nose from a fights when I was younger that doesnt help. It had been cauterized and packed previously but the blood pressure would make it blow. I tried to explain these things to employers but I guess when you own a certain piece of the pie, They dont want to fix it if it isnt broke and I understand that. It was really hard to quit but bottom line is I had been telling them for over 8 Months that I had to get out of the chair and actually do some work. The doctors had warned me and I started having some serious bouts. When I quit, they said I gave them no notice, I say they werent listening and just didnt want to have to worry about putting my work load on any one else. Such is Life!! I have a lot of respect for some of the people I worked with and it was really hard leaving but I knew I had to. So Update!!! Went to the doctor yesterday!! My blood pressure was perfect!! The ligament in my leg is healed!! I dont limp anymore. I still have some issues, Something is up with my foot may be a spur on my heal or the arthritis. I have not had my cholesterol checked yet. Since I left work. I have been getting at dawn or sooner and busting my butt trying to get this property together so we can move into our home. The old adage Early to Bed, Early to Rise , Makes a Man Healthy, Wealthy and Wise was harped to me by mentors when I was younger. I hated that phrase as I just wanted to sleep all day and stay up all night :). I am grateful now for the opportunity as I feel a whole lot better than I did 6 months ago. I still smoke and have been trying to eat right but I have a ways to go. I was really happy to hear my blood pressure is back to normal. I have always been one of those people that are extremely loyal to my job. Working crazy hours and all that. Hey some of the jobs I have been involved with you had to be. Their is a great pride that comes along with meeting crazy deadlines and being part of Can Do team that makes the impossible possible. But friends let me tell you. Their is no pride in burning yourself out to the point where your life is at risk. And as much loyalty as you think may need to exhibit to your team. Your loyalty lies in your own health and well being and sometimes you just have to make the change or die. Thats what my Doctors were telling me. Make some changes or die!! Anyways. The good news yesterday was just that. Great News!! and for those who could not understand why I made the decision I did. Doc knows best!!
