Good news for platform gamers, pc gamers, linux users (and everyone really This will totally change the market for game and smart tv platforms. Compared to what smart phones have done, this will be like the first iPhones and androids and xbox PS4 Roku etc are an old school blackberry with a belt clip. Steam (the company that sells and hosts pc games) is getting close to releasing the production version of their new steamOS! What does this mean? SteamOS I s an operating system, like mac or windows, and will be available pre installed on computers that are setup for your tv. It could potentially replace the PlayStation Xbox etc for many people. It will be cheaper, easily upgradable and you will have MANY MANY Indy games available because it will be easier for independent game companies to create or port games to the system than xbox and the others What (I imagine) you will be able to do: * watch netflix hulu and all the others * play games * play old emulated NES/SNES/Sega/etc games :) * use your tv to browse the internet * if u still feel u need satellite tv I bet there will be a way to setup the ubuntu software that works as a satellite box (I dont remember the name) * anything you can imagine available via the app market, much of it for free (like the android market) You could also download the software free and build your own computer if you want. It is a new operating system based on linux, but dont fret non technical users it will be easy to use and pre setup on the steam computers that will soon be available. LINUX USERS: Soon it will be hugely in the interests of game developers to create a linux port of their game and finally we can get rid of our windows dual boot completely! Yahoooooo!
