Good news from MARYLAND: It took two years and a lot of work to undo a poorly thought out breed specific Court ruling that had targeted pit bulls and imposed strict liability on landlords and other third parties, but justice prevailed and educated minds got the job done. With gratitude to every participant who stayed the course during this long and often frustrating process. Below, from one of the key voices in this battle, National Canine Research Council... On April 3, 2014, the Maryland House of Delegates gave final approval to breed neutral dog bite liability legislation that would abrogate the 2012 Court of Appeals ruling in Tracey v. Solesky, which imposed “breed”-specific liability on dog owners, custodians, and landlords.
