Good news to PWDs in Kisii County: Kisii County Government In the current financial year has set aside Kshs. 20 million to cater for the needs of Persons With Disability. To ensure the youth, women and Persons With Disability benefit from our procurement, we have set aside 30 per cent of all public procurement to this group. I would like to reiterate my Government’s commitment to comply with the constitutional provision that requires every public institution to have a preferential procurement policy so as to provide opportunities to the youth, women and Persons With Disability. A call for pre-qualification of contractors and suppliers was made in July this year. I hope some of you applied through your companies. If you did, I would like to have the details of your companies to enable us implement the 30 per cent affirmative action policy. To further enhance the rights of Persons With Disability, I have directed the County Attorney (present here) to prepare a Bill seeking to create a Fund for Persons With Disability. This will be tabled before the Kisii County Assembly for debate. Until this piece of legislation is passed, we have to operate within the existing framework. H. E Gov James Ongwae
