Good night everyone, heading off to cook a very late tea, as the teenagers have been grazing since they got home. Boring sausages and vegetables, but I will throw a tray of chocolate brownies in the oven to cook whilst we are eating :) Tonights photos are of the Eastern Spinebill (photos courtesy of Lynette from Castoriginals Photography). They are from the Honeyeater family and are found in dry forest, scrub and heathland from the Cooktown area, through New South Wales east of the Great Dividing Range, through Victoria and into the Flinders Ranges in South Australia as well as throughout Tasmania. Adaptable, they can be found in urban gardens with sufficient vegetation to act as cover and a food source. They feed on nectar from flowering gums, mistletoe, banksias & even fuchsias. The Eastern Spinebill stores fat during periods of high nectar production, increasing the amount of time spent feeding, so as to cope with the periods of low nectar production, it can also drop its day-time metabolic rate to night-time levels. Mother nature sure is smart :) #bird #birdhouse #goodnight #spinebill #reach #htla #pasb
