Good post Sadies-coolest band in the land Saturday morning fellow Calgary live music lovers. The Sadies/ Ramblin’ A’s show at the Republik was definitely the place to be last night with Dallas, Travis & the boys playing two encores 10 + 3 …oooh mamma that was good. I love the music scene in the city, next time somebody says to you there’s nothing going on… kindly give them a punch in the head for me. Tonight is a great case in point… Will start with “pinecone cowboys” Ol’ Boots & The Hoots on account of there playing two blocks away at the Oak Tree Tavern tonight. Love this young band’s enthusiasm and energy and how it flows into an audience and back. I feel Jocelyn Alice is one of the most talented female vocalists out there these days and it’s just a matter of time before she busts out of this city, so catch her while you can. Tonight that would be at a cool triple bill happening at Wine-Ohs where she’ll be joined by Fever Feel and the Natural Ensemble. Talking about hot female vocalists, Angie Hills and her uber-talented band will be playing Mikey’s Juke Joint tonight. Come early and enjoy Mikeys Saturday afternoon blues jam 3-7 hosted by Mikey himself, before he and his bandmates dash off to their evening gig at the Sideline Grill. While we are talkin’ blues, monster guitar slinger, Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch are in town for just one more night at the Blues Can before heading north to the Blues on Whyte for the next week. See you Thursday night Boys! Vernon Wills will be hosting the Blues Can’s afternoon blues jam today as Tim Williams is back on the road. Bill Dowey’s King Eddy Blues Jam goes 3-7 as per usual at the Shamrock Hotel where Animus Labyrinth, Open Sails and Blame Marilyn will be rawkin’ it out tonight. Only two more days of the JazzYYC Canadian Jazz festival with lots of stuff happening so visit their FB page. Probably the biggest tonight would be Petr Cancura & Down Home playing the National Music Centre 8 start. It’s a Prime Time Big Band Brunch day at the Ironwood Stage & Grill today who alas will be closed for Private Function tonight. Deb Rasmussen & Andrea Petrity are performing at LeVilla Chophouse on 4th. Some incredible shows for the folksters happening tonight. The Holy Ghost Tent Revival is playing a Stampede Session Show out at the Weber Academy with the Devin Cuddy Band opening…yowza. Martin Simpson is performing for the Nickelodeon Folk Club at the Crescent Heights Community Centre with Shawna Caspi opening. The Calgary Folk Club has Indian City with Matt Patershuk & Scott Duncan opening. We’ll be seeing Matt, Scott + Tyson Maiko with opener good buddy Carter Felker tomorrow night at the Ironwood. Rotary Park (love these guys), Jess Reimer, and Georgia Sound are playing the Palomino tonight. Great jam at the Ship and Anchor this afternoon that I’m not gonna miss…Dice Deluxe will be hoodoo boogeying it with Scott MacLeod as the musical guest. Talking Jams it’s the 1 year Anniversary of the FTS Altbilly Jam at the Border Crossing this afternoon, sounds like this one has party written all over it. Fleetwood Mac are here at the dome next Friday but if you want a teaser, Dreams – The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute will be performing at the Deerfoot Inn this evening. Out of town. Big buddy Kirby Sewell & his Band are playing Fratters, one night only, in Red Deer. Mercury Audio with Sparkle Blood are roots-rockin’ the Owl Acoustic Lounge in Lethbridge with Papa King and The Boogie Men at the Slice.
