Good snowy morning! Ive included a picture of the snow with this post. Ready to go today is our new 4oz size of soap. Its easier to hold and will not break in the middle with use, as the other 4oz size did. I guess that you can call it new and improved 4oz size soap. Ready to go now in this shape is Seaweed. I will keep you updated on the other kinds when they are ready. The price for this bar is the same $4.00 each. Ingredients: Olive Oil: (from livestrong): Olive oil is moisturizing to the skin and when used as an ingredient in soap, can keep skin healthy and nourished. Soap made with olive oil is a natural and hypoallergenic way to nourish and moisturize skin. Soap made with olive oil helps the skins surface retain moisture, which translates to younger looking skin. Regular use helps keep skin looking supple and smooth. Since olive oil contains high levels of many antioxidants, including vitamins A and E, it has the ability to renew and repair free radical damage in skin. Using soap made with olive oil helps protect and reverse the damage and wrinkles caused by sun exposure, pollution, smoke and an unhealthy diet. Additionally, the antioxidants present in soap with olive oil stimulate skin cells, leading to regrowth and maintenance of healthy, firm skin. Olive oil soap also has cleansing properties. When olive oil is applied to the skin it adheres to dirt which can then be scraped off. Adding soap ingredients to the olive oil provides a better smelling, less greasy way to keep skin clean healthy. Water Coconut Oil: (from: ezinearticles) The coconut oil benefits are numerous! Many use it for making homemade soap since its properties are outstanding. It adds a rich, creamy, texture and generates a natural bubbly lather. It has antioxidants benefits. It helps to fight free radicals that have caused damaged or pre-mature aged skin. It has fiber, vitamins and minerals. It has the benefits of vitamin E and K with iron being the most significant mineral. Choline is the most abundant nutrient in coconut oil. This water-soluble nutrient is found in the B vitamin family. Choline is an essential nutrient for maintaining normal function of all body cells and the transportation of nutrients throughout the body! Coconut oil has good cleansing and conditioning skin care properties. Food Grade Lye: (from voices.yahoo) A lot of people are misinformed about lye. I like to compare natural soap to common table salt. Salt is Sodium and Chlorine, chemically written NaCl. Both are extremely dangerous elements by themselves but when combined they make something safe and we need it to live! Chlorine is a poisonous green gas. Sodium is a highly volatile metal that looks like shiny butter and will blow things up. Yet they combine they make salt and we need it. We cant live without it. The reaction when making soap is similar but more complex. So lye by itself is not safe, but soap made from lye is safe and neutral. In fact, if it was not made with lye, it is not true soap. You may notice products that say moisture bar body bar or some other kind of bar. This is because the FDA does not allow a product to be called soap unless it is actually soap. These other look a like products are usually detergents. Natural soaps used to be made with oils and lye in nature. In the old days lye was made by dripping water through ash and added to fats. Soap has come a long way but back then and today, you cant get any soap without lye. Most items available in the store are actually detergents that are far more harsh than soap and strip away moisture. Natural soap is easier on the skin and hair. The easiest way to explain lye in soap is that a small amount of lye is necessary to start a reaction in a large amount of oil. This reaction transforms the oil into soap. There is no lye left in the soap when the reaction is complete. Seaweed: (from livestrong) Exfoliation: Seaweed soap cleans the body as traditional soaps do, plus it exfoliates the skin. Gritty bits of seaweed within the soap remove dead cells on the skin. This reveals the newer skin beneath, helps unclog pores and reduces acne breakouts. Gentle on Skin: Even though it exfoliates, seaweed soap does not result in dry skin. In general, seaweed soap is all natural, containing none of the man-made chemicals in other soaps that can cause allergic reactions in some users. Nourishment: Seaweed contains several beneficial minerals and vitamins that nourish the skin during the exfoliation process, leaving the skin healthy looking and toned. These include vitamins A1, B2, B6, B12, and minerals like potassium, calcium, iron and zinc. Seaweed soap also encourages blood circulation around the skin, resulting in a rejuvenated appearance. Cellulite/ Stretch Mark Reduction: While there are claims that seaweed soap actually results in fat loss, there is little scientific data backing that claim up. However, websites like SeaweedSkin acknowledge that seaweed soap can reduce cellulite and reduce stretch marks, but minimally, and only after extended use. Vitamin E: (from healthy-skincare) Regulator for Vitamin A: The vitamin e benefits for healthy skin care also include its ability to regulate vitamin a in the body, which itself is important for healthy skin. Anti-Aging Benefits of Vitamin E: Vitamin e added to lotions, creams, and other skin care products, as well as taken orally, plays a role in the anti-aging of skin. It helps skin look younger by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Also, free radicals are believed to play an important role in skin aging and therefore the antioxidant activity is quite valuable for this skin problem. Sun Protection and Sun Burn Treatment: Vitamin e lotions provide some benefit in preventing and treating sunburns. These lotions protect the epidermis layer of the skin from early stages of ultra violet light damage. Vitamin e preparations also increase the effectiveness of sunscreens. Such lotions do not work immediately. They must be applied about 20 minutes before sun exposure in order to allow the vitamin e to be absorbed deep into the epidermis layer. Other Vitamin E Benefits: There are a variety of other benefits of vitamin e for skin care: vitamin e products help reduce the appearance of stretch marks vitamin e can help prevent the appearance of age spots it helps maintain the skin’s oil balance during the cleansing process it reduces transepidermal water loss from skin and strengthens the skin’s barrier function Overall for skin care, more benefit is obtained from topical application of vitamin e through creams or lotions rather than taking vitamin e orally. Skin is able to absorb natural vitamin e effectively. However, taking vitamin e orally is important for the good health of other areas of the body.
