Good write up on Rod Salkas win over Monty Meza Clay by Dan Rafael of ESPN. ROD SALKA W10 MONTY MEZA CLAY Lightweight Records: Salka (20-4, 3 KOs); Meza Clay (36-4, 22 KOs) Rafaels remarks: Salka, of Bunola, Pennsylvania, returned from his brutal second-round destruction at the hands of junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia in August in one of the years most hideous high-profile mismatches to win a bloodbath. Back at his more natural weight and facing local rival Meza Clay, 33, of Rankin, Pennsylvania, Salka scored a hard-fought, bloody victory that was a lot tougher than the scores make it appear. The blood was flying throughout the incredibly fast-paced fight that was very crowd-pleasing. There was no doubt Salka was the winner, but Meza Clay, coming off an ultra-exciting 10th-round knockout of Alan Herrera in August, has nothing to hang his head about after the effort he gave. Meza Clay pressured Salka throughout the fight but was badly cut in the second round and wound up cut over both eyes. Salka, more of the boxer, also got cut early in the fight as they duked it out toe to toe. How bloody was this slugfest? Referee Ernie Sharifs shirt wound up covered in blood from both men, and promoter Mike Tyson was cheering at ringside. It was that kind of terrific fight.
