Goodmorning guys! Here are some examples of IELTS speaking task 3 - Comparing type. Surely that its useful for you! • Are schools nowadays the same as schools in the past? If you ask me they’re different in many ways now, thanks to a combination of economic development as well as the priority the government have placed in education, schools nowadays are much better equipped. What I mean is, schools have computer labs, which students are able to use to do research with. Not to mention, the number of students per class has reduced, or to be more precise halved! There used to be 80 or more students but now there are only 40 or even only 30. • Are TV programmes nowadays the same as TV programmes in the past? Obviously, there are tons of differences, if you ask me, but I guess the main one might be that TV programmes now are a lot more interesting than they used to be. I guess that’s cos the budget is higher. Another difference that I can think of is that the presenters are younger and better looking. • Are restaurants nowadays the same as restaurants in the past? They’re not really alike in anyway. Restaurants, 20 or 30 years ago were tiny and served a very limited range of dishes, whereas now you can find all sorts of restaurants that offer dishes from other countries. Basically, there’s a lot more choice now. It’s possible to eat Chinese, Japanese or Indian food, just down the street. You don’t only have to eat bun cha or pho if you don’t feel like it. • Are free-time activities nowadays the same as 20 years ago in your country? Well obviously they’re not the same at all… they’re actually completely different! The main difference that comes to my mind right now is that there are a lot more things you can do in your free time, like go to the cinema, or go shopping, go fishing, sport. I guess our parents never thought of doing anything in their free time, first of all, cos they probably didnt have any, and second of all because there was absolutely nothing to do, you know… • Are shops nowadays the same as shops when you were younger? I guess shops have gotten bigger and fancier. The presentation has become prettier and you have a lot more choice. When I was younger, in Hanoi, there were only a few shops and in it, there were only a few items. Not to mention, we also can buy things online nowadays which is so much more convenient. • Are trips nowadays the same as trips that your parents had when they were young? I suppose they are! Yes, definitely! They’re sooo different! Nowadays, thanks to the affordable flights, a trip to the beach takes a few hours. When my parents were young, going to the beach would take them a day at least and also I don’t think they ever thought of going on holiday because they were so busy working and making money. • In what ways are magazines different to newspapers? There are quite a few differences between magazines and newspapers. One that I can think of right now is that magazines are a lot more colorful and the articles in them are not as serious. You know the news can be very depressing because they cover topics like politics, you know things about the government and other serious things.
