Goodwill Taking Advantage of Individuals with Disabilities.. In - TopicsExpress

Goodwill Taking Advantage of Individuals with Disabilities.. In the national press release, the first ever, by Autism Candles to highlight its project, sheltered workshops were featured in the rational in general. The project was born of controversy and the reality of sheltered and or segregated programs. Being a self-advocate who has always liked the idea of business and well, has always pondered about such things rather intensively I wanted to develop solutions. So I thought disability inclusion and opportunity equality needs to behave like mainstream successful businesses in strategy, and I followed a Harvard business strategy, in part, during the recession with good success. The problem is there is a separation between idealism, such as the idea and passion for equal opportunity inclusive justice and that of the business world, but only in part I think. Organizations like Goodwill are unfortunately not unlike many non-profits who live and function in the real world. The methods of achieving success require high paying positions and a security of that profitability to sustain their existence. It was especially hard watching a news interview in which the CEO of Goodwill justified paying such low wages and yet having yielded so much personal profit not only for himself but other directors in their organization. And he referred to those high paying directors as innovators whilst stuck in the model decades old, hiding a reality of economic injustice and extreme wages (to the common person) for those on top, as if genius other than the generic methods were at play. It takes a great deal of work to lead successful innovation. But I also believe that success is not always dependent upon high paid directors and CEOs. There are many good people will to be part of solutions without getting rich, and even more people wanting to support real justice and innovation, then simply relying upon old solutions and dead end hope. The audacity to go up against organizations such as Goodwill, especially them being so self-justified and unwavering in their behaviors is quite brave. Yet I have always said, have the solutions. You got to also be the solution. It is my mentality that though there is allot to complain about, and that which is justly complained about, but there are not enough alternative solutions. In the real harsh world of business solutions and innovation with social cause are the only things that can change things.
