Google Partners Event - Directories Done Right - NumberOneOnTheList TRANSCRIPT Tom Jacoby: Okay. What is your main directory? That would be the Yellow Pages, like Yahoo, Manta. Deborah Zacarias Chadow: Avvo? Tom Jacoby: Avvo, sthose are all, you know, Aure, for attorneys, definitely. You know, vvo is more specialized for your profession. You know, thats like Houzz for home remodelers, you know? But at any rate, just the big directories, right? There are little tiny directories that you want toavoid like the plague. And another place in that video he mentions five to ten main directories, and thats about right. I can tell that we used to, a few years ago, we used to place stuff in 50 directories. We cut way back on that because Google does not like the little tiny directories. They regard it as being an effort to influence search engine results which is regarded as a Google no-no. Janice Blake: Do you know what Fiverr is? Tom Jacoby: Yeah, sure. Janice Blake: So I go on there and you know for five bucks you can have your website put out to 500. Tom Jacoby: Careful. Janice Blake: I know thats what I am saying. Tom Jacoby: Careful [laugh]...Because they dont get the consequences, they just get the five bucks. Janice Blake: Right. Tom Jacoby: You know? And since theyre charging you all of $5, this is all automated. Automated directory listings, not so hot. Group: Yeah, thats right. Tom Jacoby: Way better to take your time. You know, do know what the key is to a directory? Answering all the questions. If you go to Manta, it is a very large, very popular directory, Manta. If you just go through it step by step and completely answer each question, if they allow you to have ten JPEGs, give them ten JPEGs. If they allow you to have. . . Janice Blake: How big is a JPEG? 300, 260? Tom Jacoby: Theyll tell you how large they want it. Some people want it to be 200K or less. Some people will go up to five megs. It depends, you know. So you just follow all the rules and give them everything that they will let you put there. Janice Blake: Do you pay for that? Tom Jacoby: No, that ones free. Mildred Tassone: Theres so much free things and I think less is more. I think it is better to do it properly . . . Tom Jacoby: Right.
