Patriot Paws was officially designated as a 501(c)(3) organization in February of 2006. Patriot PAWS trains service dogs primarily for veterans with mobility disabilities. They begin training when pups are 8 weeks old and train them for 18-24 months. The average cost to train one service dog is $27,000 over a two-year period. Patriot Paws currently has more than a two year waiting list for their veteran applicants to receive a service dog, and there are over 100 veterans on their list. Patriot Paws provide dogs nationwide at NO CHARGE TO THE VETERAN. PPSD has 52 dogs in their program so 60 blankets sounds like a nice round number of donations to Patriot PAWS. These blankets will be issued to the dogs immediately after they leave their initial training at the prison training program and enter the next phase of their training and will follow them all the way to their ultimate forever friend. Labs are big dogs, so large is good! All of these blankets should be adopter style blankets. Red, white and blue and camo of any color is a neat theme but not required.
