Goooood morning everyone, Unfortunately Dot myself and our friend was involved in a road traffic accident last Monday evening (30/06/2014) whilst on a day trip to Veliko Tarnovo. We were just leaving the city when a dog ran in front of the car and I swerved into the other lane and my car was met by a HGV hurtling passed me. The HGV driver was unharmed and his vehicle suffered little damage by my car did not survive and is a write off. All 3 of us were taken by ambulance to the local hospital and there the nightmare began. I don’t want to go into much detail at the moment but needless to say I have never met anyone as nasty, ignorant, unhelpful, unprofessional and abusive as these so called health workers. We were never examined only looked at and after being verbally abused every time we made the simplest of requests (where can I get a drink of water) and left in a room for hours without knowing what was happening we were finally sent for x rays. The doctors refused to speak with my interpreter again I suffered a barrage of verbal just for asking if they would speak to her on my phone. Dot and I suffered from severe bruising to our chests and stomach area and I have also broken my sternum, Ouch. All our injuries were the result of the seat belt and apparently these types of injuries after a collision are quite common, they never told you that on the clunk click adverts but they did save us from much more injury. Amazingly our friend only had a little bruising to one of her knees but all the time we were in the emergency room she was never asked if she needed any treatment and if fact she was thrown out of the room twice by these so called medical staff, they said that she was taking up room. We were in tremendous pain and given no medication to help, only evicted from the hospital without any idea what to do next. I rang a couple of great friends who live in Yambol (about 2 ½ hours away) and they arranged for us to be taken to their home by taxi. Their hospitality and medical care was second to none they even had pain killers ready for our arrival, beds made up and the kettle boiled. We stayed there until Friday when they brought us all home. We cannot thank these friend’s enough they were truly magnificent and without them we don’t know what we would have done, as we were all suffering from a little shock. The police was not much better, they refused to write any of my statement down and on the paper report the area where my statement should be is blank. They also refused to let me leave the car at a local garage forcing me to remove it on the back of a recovery vehicle. So my car had to follow the taxi to Yambol. I have spoken with a few of my Bulgarian friends and they all have said that I should have been allowed to leave the car somewhere locally. I have to wonder if the driver of the recovery vehicle was in anyway related to the police man. Since we arrived back home our other friends have all been very kind generous with the offers of help and support. It is at times like these that you find out your true friends and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Dots still in a little pain but healing well and I have to go and get another x ray later in the week to see how my sternum is healing, hopefully all will be good and we can get back to normal as soon as possible.
