Gordon Goodwins Big Phat Band: I’ve been writing music for - TopicsExpress

Gordon Goodwins Big Phat Band: I’ve been writing music for orchestra for many years, but it was only recently that I took on the challenge of writing for string quartet. There is nowhere to hide in that genre, not for the players and not for the composer. But I knew a good shot when I saw it, and when Jeremy Cohen, leader of the fine ensemble Quartet San Francisco, ask me to contribute a piece for their new record, I jumped. As a matter of fact, I jumped twice, writing two pieces for them. Of course, I was confident that these fine musicians could play anything I wrote, and improve it at that. I am proud to have a couple of slots on their new release “Pacific Premieres: New Works by California Composers” especially because of the fine company I find myself with – Vince Mendoza, Jeremy Cohen and Patrick Williams. I hope you will check out their record, honestly, there is nothing like it in the genre. quartetsanfrancisco/recordings/pacific-premieres-new-works-by-california-composers/ For those of you in the LA area, you have a chance to hear this fine group in person.
