Gorey U18 Girls at home to Naas - Sat 24/1 Gorey U18 Girls team played Naas RFC in Gorey on Saturday afternoon in great conditions. After a very tough and entertaining match Gorey emerged victorious. This team have gelled very well together since the start of the season &, on Saturday afternoon, the girls showed great passion and will from the first kick off of the game. Gorey started off well with a tough try from Caoimhe Molloy, with Daisy Earle helping her cross the line. Naas answered back to that with their number 12 having a lucky break resulting in a try, which was unconverted. Gorey didnt let that dent their confidence as Tess OBrien and Jessica Foote weaved in and out through the Naas defence line. Gorey inched closer and closer towards another score when Daisy Earle picked the ball from Nicola McGrath from the bottom of a ruck and sliced through the Naas defence to get a try. For the remainder of the half, Gorey battled hard to score another try, with great runs from Joanne Smith, Orla McNeill and Emma Peters. Yvonne Hoey succeeded, flying over the tryline after getting a lovely pass from Chloe Moulds. Number 12 for Naas booted the ball down the wing resulting in another try for Naas which they failed to convert. In the second half, it was Naass turn to play into the sun, something which had caused a few knock ons for Gorey in the first half. With this in mind, the Gorey girls were fully confident in their own ability for the second half. Following a kick to touch from Jessica Foote, Gorey won the line out against the head which resulted in the ball being carried forward by Daisy Earle who, when tackled, placed the ball back to Clodagh Murphy who burst through the Naas defence line to score just at the posts. From the kick off, Gorey attacked with great lines from Bethany Braham, Chloe Bates and Liath Murdiff, under the watchful eye of Jess and Nicola who commanded the game from 9 and 10. Following numerous attacks on the Naas line, (which saw a fantastic display of rucking, mauling and tackling from both sides), eventually Gorey were rewarded with another try from Yvonne Hoey who powered her way through the defence to score on the left of the posts with help from Janne Strydom, Michelle Dunne and Kim Austin. The full Gorey squad had a great performance on the day with Jessica Foote converting 4 out 5 attempts at goal, something that Ronan OGara would have been proud of!
