Goshen Street Commissioner Denny Long appeals to residents, Please - TopicsExpress

Goshen Street Commissioner Denny Long appeals to residents, Please be patient with us as brush from the storm is collected. It has been nearly two weeks since the storm blew through the Maple City. My estimate from previous storm damage is that it will take two to three weeks more to complete the first round of brush removal. The July 1 storm affected the entire city to varying degrees. Since the event, the Street Department crews have taken 400-plus loads to the Environmental Center and there are large areas yet to collect.” Following is a list of instructions for brush disposal. • The Goshen Street Department cannot come onto private property to pull trees off houses, fences, or other property. • With this massive damage, the City cannot be responsible for repairing damaged lawns. • Whole trees will not be removed. • Stumps will not be removed • Piles containing any other storm damage/debris—trash, processed lumber, screens, etc.—will not be removed. • If vehicles are parked in front of, against, or over brush piles, the Street crews cannot pick up the pile. • Cut limbs and brush to a maximum of 10’ in length. This is necessary so they will fit in Street Department trucks. • Limbs may up to 12” in diameter. • Brush piles must be left at the curb and not intrude in the street; brush in alleys will not be removed. • Brush is to be piled behind the sidewalk so it does not get in the way of repair crews. • Brush piles are to be placed away from utility poles, fire hydrants or trees. Residents should NOT call the Goshen Street Department for a specific schedule. It is impossible to be able to predict when their brush will be collected due to the varying volume of brush, the condition the piles were left in, weather, and other variables. And specific addresses cannot be assured removal on an appointed date and time. This service is for residents’ convenience. It is not intended for professionals who do work for Goshen residents. Professional tree trimmers/removers must make other arrangements to dispose of the brush and timber that they generate within the city limits. For those with a large amount of brush, a Dial-A-Truck/Trailer is available to use at no cost to residents. Contact the Street Department for details. Residents can take brush to the Environmental Center located at County Rd. 19 just west of Indiana Ave. There is no charge for dropping off brush, for Goshen residents. The site is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. If residents do not get brush to the curb by the time the Street Department collects their neighborhood, the City’s normal Brush Pick up Program will begin again on July 28 provided the first round of storm damage has been accomplished.
