Gospel: Luke 1:57-66 - Dec. 23 Commentary When John the Baptist is named, his father Zechariah recovers his voice, his ability to speak. Perhaps this is not purely coincidental, for John, whose future is the subject of speculation among his parents neighbors (What will this child be? they ask) will precisely become the voice crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord. John is the Voice, but as St. Augustine insists, Christ is the Word. We live in an age of strident voices speaking words that kill the spirit, that deceive and destroy. There is a need for people who, like John, will dedicate their voices to speaking the Word of truth and transformation who is Christ. https://youtube/watch?v=MfNUOvrpw0Q
