Gospel Reflection: July 27, 2014 - 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time Mt 13:44-52 In this Sundays gospel we hear Jesus say that the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. And just what is that treasure? When we think about it, it can be something that inspires us, enlivens, and could open horizons of new plans and dreams. Looking at Solomon in the first reading, God is inviting us to “ask something of Him and He will give it”. I remember when I was a child, I really liked the idea of Aladdin’s lamp: something that I could rub to get anything I wanted. Maturing, I know I can petition God anytime, anywhere, for anything, and God will give it to me. Maybe not exactly what I asked for, but God always gives me what I need and then some! God was pleased that Solomon did not ask for something for himself, but for the gift of understanding so that he would know what is right. God wants to hear our voice, our heartbeat, and our breath. “Ask in my name, and it will be given to you.” Sister Sandi Sosnowski, CSFN
