Got NordicKnees ? You are getting more knee bend for sure on the rower -- and more impact (for sure) just walking. (neither a rower or skier has ANY impact on your knee). Might be your form (try adjusting the hip pad height which will change that - rule of thumb is top of pad = belly button height). Also try some tension equalization (upper - lower body) which should meet in the middle) and / or change your stride / cadence (short - long). Remember the skis are self adjusting, but you might be pressing back a bit irregular. You might also try changing the incline (If PRO model or above) which motorizes your skier by working against gravity.
