Got a call from a Bank on my beat where the teller wanted to - TopicsExpress

Got a call from a Bank on my beat where the teller wanted to report a Theft type case from an Account Holder. How does that happen? One might ask! Well Donkey 1 is the account holder and got a check made out to him from Donkey 2 in the amount of $2000. Donkey 1 takes the check to his Bank to be Deposited and has deposited large check sums in the past, Donkey 1 asks the Teller if there would be a hold on the check (ahem.. first indicator) The Teller, without checking with the Supervisor for clearance approves access and waives the Hold Check Alert, (ahem.. suspicious) so Donkey 1 has access to the 2,000. and immediately withdraws the whole $2000.. The Bank calls to tell him about the Check that Donkey 2 wrote being returned for Insufficient Funds but doesnt say that in the voicemail but only states that its his bank and call back to discuss a matter regarding his account. He doesnt reply so the Bank wants to make a Theft Report. I felt that it wasnt a Theft because he was given permission or granted access to the funds and the Bank never notified Donkey 1 of the discrepancy nor was he afforded the opportunity to return the funds after being informed of the returned check. My riders head was spinning! He had already pulled a Theft 2 report number because thats what type of incident we were sent to. As soon as we left the bank he was like, Man, I need to get more life experience.
