Got a message from Claire this morning. Sawatdeekah from Bangkok everyone! We arrived late last night, or rather early this morning to a quiet and calm Shanti Lodge. After such a long flight we are having a restful morning to sleep in and recuperate. The plan is to lay low in the Shanti Lodge neighborhood before we catch a train to Chaing Mai later this evening. This afternoon we have the great pleasure to meet with John Beeching, a man who has spent many years working with monks and refugees from Burma. He is a phenomenal speaker and will give the students an introduction to the issues we will be studying when we reach the border town of Mae Sot and the village of No Boh. The weather is mild here, a nice surprise as it can sometimes be overwhelmingly hot and harder to adjust to. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm of this group of students so far and look forward to more as we delve into village life and other parts of Thailand.
