Got a quandary, need some advice. Last week, when checking out my child from a doctors office affiliated with a large hospital here, I was at the receiving end of a particularly biting sarcastic comment. Referring to insurance, the woman requested her social security#. When I explained I didnt know it and certainly dont carry her card around. She proceeded to inform me that they had to have it or else I would be responsible for the entire bill. I calmly explained to her that, no-I would not, and that I still didnt know it, and the type of medical insurance was guaranteed by the state. Also, that at no time in her life has anyone said that or have we ever received a bill of any kind. Her next comment was Oh, you mean I pay for this and you dont. I was stunned and shocked. I did manage to reply, No. I pay my taxes as well, so I pay too. This was so crass and insensitive and my child was right there! Do I report this type of rude insensitivity to her superior? The more I think about it, the madder I get. Furious, in fact.
