Got really sad news yesterday. The shop says I need a new engine in my 2005.5 B7. Never had a new clutch so they said Id save a lot by replacing that as well. At 215k miles KBB says its worth $5k. I ordered the car from the factory and have been the only owner, so Ive taken really good care of it. Overall in good condition other than the engine. $10k (brand new engine + clutch + labor) to get it back on the road. If that $10k gave me a minimum of 2 more years, itd still be cheaper than getting another car. Hating to see such a good car go to the junk yard, would you cut your losses or try to salvage it? Anyone have any other catastrophic failures with that model that I may encounter to help me better decide to scrap or keep? Im thinking the only other major components that may fail would be the CV joints and tranny.
