Got the honor and pleasure to watch James Thierree and Compagnie - TopicsExpress

Got the honor and pleasure to watch James Thierree and Compagnie du Hanneton performing Tabac Rouge tonight in the Sydney Festival. What an experience. Phew.... Thierre, one of my favorite creators, a unique persona and a true genius did not disappoint: visually stunning, most dynamic performance, beautiful compositions, cast of movers out of this world, (first time in my life I am inspired by the contortionist but she was so much more than that) props and stage design - A+++, wardrobe - incredible work, acting - flawless, (especially Thierree himself but others did not let down) and great musical work. Thierre gives you a glimpse into the twisted mind. Then he turns the mirror to face you and the real twisted one reveals himself. Some moments reminded me of Tom Waits, Ridley Scott, Gary Oldman and of course another reminder that Thierree is the great Charlie Chaplins grandson. I enjoyed this one. It is a most communicative and approachable performance, some might get tired by certain humorist choices, various uses of theatricality and slapstick but I believe Thierree is using those TOOLS in accurate dosages and without abuse. In one word - inspired. Top notch Physical Theater. Run to see it. Dont walk.
