Got to watch something blow up at work today (on purpose). We design industrial breakers up to 4KV, and occasionally the high-power lab will overload one to destruction. Its a big event they invite all the new people to come watch from the observation deck into the test lab. These breakers are the size of 4 shoeboxes stacked together, full of copper bar and so heavy they need a hoist. Todays test racked a 2KV rated breaker up into the test fixture and hit it with 6KV... several hundred pounds of copper acted like an old camera flash bulb and vaporized. The test was to make sure it blows up in the proper sequence and direction, which it did. I have a cool job.
