Gotta love those Delta Sky (Frequent Flyer) Miles and retirement - TopicsExpress

Gotta love those Delta Sky (Frequent Flyer) Miles and retirement to use them! In 20+ years as a road/air warrior I accumulated 1.6 Million Delta miles (more than some archangels) and finally pulled the trigger on the Delta RTW (Round The World) Award. This award is such an sterling FREEBIE (except still got to pay airport taxes, security et.al) that Delta has cancelled it effective 1/1/2015. By comparison, the Iceland trip I cancelled after breaking elbow on Alaska trip would have burned 60,000 of my miles... the RTW award allows me to go to and/or leave from six different cities consistently heading east or west and only cost me 180,000 miles. Because Chile and Argentina are so geographically long and chock full of awesome sites in remote areas, I added some flights and bus trips out of my (future nursing home) savings (CQ) so I could visit more than the six cities Delta allows. Trip started at 10:24 pm last night (Tuesday 12/30/14) and I am now sitting in the Buenos Aires airport getting ready to ring in the New Year. Wonder if theres a Big Burrito drop. My first actual stop is Ushuaia, AR, which is in Tierra del Fuego region, and a staging area for Antarctica expeditions. Its summer down here, but since summer never comes to the South Pole, im not even thinking about going. If all goes as planned (i.e. NO more broken bones, ebola, etc.), Ive got 14 hours in Atlanta on Feb 26 enroute from Brazil to South Africa; and then RTW odyssey ends on June 17 as I return from Japan. Plan to start posting a few of the prime time photos soon. Prayers and positive karma thoughts appreciated.
