Gov. Edgar Chatto is keynote speaker at th Farmers Field Day in Gabi, Ubay where farmer groups from Duero, Sierra Bullones, Pilar, Carmen, Talibon, and Ubay learn about competitive advantage, the adaptability of Japonica and Korean cultivars and seed multiplication and dissemination from the Korea Project on International Agriculture (KOPIA) headed by KOPIA Sec. Gen. Dr. Cho Yang-Hee and KOPIA Philippines Center Director Dr. Jeong Taek-Lee. The program started in 2011, in partnership with PhilRice and IRRI and BOFAMCO, following the principle of Saemul Undong or New Village Movement which is similar to the Purok Power Movement in Bohol. It carried the slogans of diligence, self-help and collaboration to institute rural transformation in rice production to increase productivity and farmers income through cooperativism. The model in Gabi, Ubay is a 5-hectare property of Gil Montilla, where farm inputs are provided by KOPIA, and income from harvest become seed money for farmer groups.
