Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez moves for the mandatory implementation of Executive Order No. 42, Series of 2014 that seeks a “100% Smoke Free Environment” in all provincial offices and hospitals under the auspices of the Provincial Government of Laguna (PGL). Being a non-smoker himself, Gov. Ramil mentioned that one of the many benefits of not smoking is we will be able to save. Stopping smoking was also found to delay facial ageing. We will not also be inconvenienced by always trying to find the time to smoke while at work. Lastly, not smoking will be a sign of courtesy to non-smokers who will be adversely affected by the smoke. Among the directives mentioned in EO No. 42 are: there will be no designated smoking areas; and prohibition on selling cigarettes within the premises of the Provincial Capitol Compound and all its hospitals, schools, and satellite offices. Any employee caught violating this executive order will be penalized with a 1 month and 1 day to 6 months suspension for the first offense, and dismissal from service for the second offense. Gov. Ramil appeals to everyone to quit smoking to promote health and safety, and to uphold the well-being and the right of the people to a clean environment.
