Gove introduces this piece (in the Guardian - in other words - placing a bit of spin in the paper read by teachers) with the hook: The teachers who dedicate their lives to helping children from disadvantaged homes to achieve their potential are my heroes. Then goes on to say Lord Harris, who got rich by selling carpets, is his real hero. Because runs a chain of academies where he introduced uniforms, houses, academic subjects and discipline. Now, I know those things are matters of degree (and possibly spin) but isnt this a lie? Didnt all these schools have uniforms, houses/groups, academic subjects and discipline before academisation? And anyway, what difference has been made by increasing the importance or strictness of these things - leaving aside the differences made by e.g. recruiting new teachers, building new buildings, more support staff and more extracurricular opportunities that come with more money? theguardian/commentisfree/2014/jun/29/hero-conservative-millionaire-saving-schools
