Governance Africa: Views Religious bigotry rear it ugly head at the inaugural plenary of the National Conference yesterday. Fiery Cleric Tunde Bakare objected to the use of Islamic chants by the Chairman Kutigi in commencing his speeches, threatening to start his presentations with praise the Lord somebody. Chief Mike Ozekhome takes it further by requesting for a prayer ground for Christians who are currently observing the lent period. COMMENT: This National Conference is a serious national assignment, delegates should eschew religious sentiments and tackle nagging issues. The Chairman should be sensitive to the mutual suspicion that is prevailing amongst delegates, he is not presiding over a Sharia Court or Islamic gathering. Let a national prayer be adopted, possibly the second stanza of our National Anthem as already canvassed by one of the delegates. Chief Ozekhome SAN is just too experienced and intellectually sound to condescend so low Prayer ground at the National Conference, what for? Inibehe Effiong
