Government allocates GH¢70 million to kick start 50 community Senior High Schools As part of the NDC 2012 manifesto to “construct 200 new Community Day Senior High Schools across the country with emphasis on districts where there are no such schools”; • Government has budgeted GH¢70 million under the GETFund to kick start 50 community senior high schools. • An education review meeting on the theme “Improving teaching and learning through strengthening accountability at all levels” under the auspices of the education ministry was held for NGO’s and other stakeholders in the sector. • In attendance were stakeholders NGO’s and other in the sector on the theme “Improving teaching and learning through strengthening accountability at all levels”. • There had been a steady improvement in the education sector such as enrolment rates, girls’ participation and increase in access for children with special education needs. • On-going policy interventions such as the Capitation Grant, provision of free exercise books and uniforms, school feeding programme and targeted support to deprived districts and girls have yielded results. • Government has also implemented the Global Partnership for Education Grant project of $ 75.5 million. • The project is intended to address inequalities in education by improving learning outcomes and enhancing management and supervision in schools.
