Government has announced plans to take over public transport in the city. Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA ) and the Police will now manage taxi parks. “Government of Uganda from now onwards shall take over the management of gazetted parks within the city. The public is hereby assured that the government shall protect their interests,” security minister Muruli Mukasa has told a news conference in Kampala today.. He warned: “Should any form of improper act take place amongst taxi operation factions, the long arm of the law shall operate.” The minister made the announcement while addressing journalists on the new guidelines to manage public transport. Mukasa explained that the takeover follow factions in the industry that have engaged in running battles within themselves, complaints of in discipline and extortion with some law enforcement assistants arrested for misbehaving among other complaints. There are over 3000 taxis operating in the city.
