Government has given the Prison Service 3 million kwacha for the purchase of maize from the Food Reserve Agency to facilitate the effectiveness of Kalonga Milling company. Speaking during a tour of Kalonga milling, Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakula said once commercialized, the plant can enhance food security. And his counterpart in the Ministry of Agriculture Wilbur Simuusa says the effectiveness of the plant will help address the escalating mealie meal prices on the market. Mr. Simuusa assured the nation that the current food crisis is yet to change as his ministry endeavor to improve input distribution and foster food security. The Kalonga Milliing plant, run by the prison service, has the capacity of 80 tone per 24 hours and requires 584 000 by 50kg per year.
