Government making all-out efforts to overcome shortage of electricity March 10, 2014 RECORDER REPORT 0 CommentsE-mailPrintPDF Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the government is making all out efforts for overcoming shortage of electricity and a big project has been evolved for power generation from coal in Punjab. He said that China has offered investment package of $32 billion in Pakistan which is a big gift of Chinese leadership for the country. He said that the darkness would be removed from the country by fully benefiting from the investment package of China. He was talking to the head of prominent industrial group of the country Husain Dawood, here Sunday. Matters regarding co-operation in energy sector were discussed in the meeting. Provincial Minister for Minerals Sher Ali Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Energy and other senior officials were present. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the visit of President Mamnoon Hussain and him to China has resulted in substantial increase in Chinese co-operation in energy, infrastructure and other sectors. He said that historic package made by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif of the setting up of economic corridor with Chinese co-operation in Pakistan would result in bringing about a new era of economic development in the country. He said that investment of billions of dollars in Pakistan by Chinese government and different companies is of vital importance. He said that under Pak-China economic corridor, project would be launched in energy, infrastructure, transport and other sectors. He said that the goal of economic development cannot be realised without generation of electricity; therefore, Muslim League-N government led by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has launched various projects of power generation. He said that for the first time, due attention has been paid to generation of low cost electricity from coal and speedy progress is being made towards power production from coal available in Thar. He said that there are vast reserves of coal in Punjab as well and the government is also working on their utilisation. Similarly, he said that Nandipur power project would be completed by the end of the current year and its first turbine would start power production within two months, resulting in initial generation of 100 megawatt electricity.
