Government of India recently invited all SAARC Heads of States to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi on 26 May 2014. During their visit to India, CII President, Mr Ajay S Shriram and Director General, Mr Chandrajit Banerjee had an opportunity to meet H E Mr Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan; H E Mr Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan; H E Mr Sushil Koirala, Prime Minister of Nepal; H E Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury; Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament and H E Prof. G L Peiris, External Affairs Minister of Sri Lanka. At these meetings, CII President, Mr Ajay S Shriram briefed the South Asian leaders on the major initiatives taken by CII to promote trade and economic relations between the SAARC countries. During the interaction, the South Asian Leaders highlighted the existence of opportunities for bilateral cooperation between in diverse sectors such as Energy, Healthcare, Education, Pharmaceuticals, Infrastructure, IT, SMEs, Manufacturing, Agriculture, and Skill development.
