Government okays the draft of TICFA with USA. TICFA will hamper country?s interest and strengthen imperialist hegemony -CPB and SPB Communist Party of Bangladesh and the Socialist Party of Bangladesh expressed strong grievance as the cabinet okayed Trade and Investment Cooperation Framework Agreement with USA, stating that this agreement would hamper country?s interest and would strengthen the hegemonistic influence of USA on Bangladesh, expanding further the area of influence. On 17 June 2013, Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim and Comrade Syed Abu Zafar, president and general secretary, respectively, of CPB and Comrade Khalequzaman general secretary of BSD, in a joint statement accused government for its heinous attempt to sign the TICFA with USA secretly keeping people unaware about the agreement. They said that government has been trying secretly for a long time to sign such agreement with USA, so that people do not have any scope to know about the details of the agreement. Left progressive circle of Bangladesh has been opposing this agreement and telling that this is nothing but a part of the conspiracy and of the various attempts made by USA to expand its hegemonistic influence in this region. Ignoring the public opinion government thus by approving the draft of the agreement, actually sacrificed the interest of the country. As a consequence of this agreement Intellectual property Rights Act will become effective and by that multinational corporation of USA will not only be financially benefited but also their political influence will be increased. Because of this agreement Bangladesh will lose the right and the opportunity to play any role to protect and advance the interest of the country forming different types of alliances with the less developed countries on various international issues whenever such situation arises. In the statement the leaders said that because of this agreement Bangladesh is forced to abandon (market) protectionist policy and to adopt the policy of liberalization and free market economy allowing the unrestricted flow of international finance capital and investment with the guaranty of easy transfer of profit. And thus through TICFA, economy of Bangladesh will be confined within the structure of the ?imperialist capitalist globalization?. The leaders also said that TICFA is an ominous signal for Bangladesh. It is an attempt to enslave our country. The leaders demanded that the process of signing this anti-people agreement should be immediately stopped. More over, they urged that the entire text of the draft agreement should be made public.
