Governor Akpabios N2bn and Vehicle Donations to Police IG ...why now? By Useobong Akpabio As Akwa Ibom state joins other state of the federation to decide their future through election come February, it is expected that the governor Akpabio who is the sitting governor will do every thing humanly possible to install his handpick successor. Its is also incumbent upon the electorates to say no to the appointment of successor which the governor vow to carry out instead of election as the case is always. The election itself is a story for another day, What borders us here is the donation of vehicular machines to the police few days to the election. On early last year where the debate for state police was a popular discus in Nigeria, Governor Akpabio in an interview granted to Government House correspondents told the world that Police and security of the state was the duty of the federal Government. Another instance was when Governor Akpabio was asked why there was so much kidnappings in the state few years ago, he openly said that police force is the job of the federal government not the state. Just few day ago, I gathered that government donated trucks, armor cars etc to the police and the IG was in the state to receive them. This cars, according to source worth billions of Naira which would have been use to settle salaries of Local Government workers, who are on strike for the passed three months, pay November/December salaries which workers are still yearning for, Complete the outrageous Tropicana, Airport Hanger and Terminal, Independent Hospital, IPP , Uruan Housing Estate that has been abandoned by contractors. It has also been alleged that the governor gave police IG N2billion on privacy the day the vehicle was inaugurated and thank him for his support. so now, why do we use the state money to fund police trucks and other jobs? The purpose of this truck, we believe are not aim at aiding the police in order to protects life and properties in the state but to aide government rig election and terrorize innocent people during the voting Also more importantly, the timing is very suspicious. Why now? Every Akwa Ibom persons knows that its few weeks to the elections. Akwa Ibom people do not want to witness another round of killings,political motivated assassinations as was the case in 2011. Time to ask question is now!
