Governor, CM present State Awards, CM’s Gold Medals 71 recipients received Awards at Investiture Ceremony SRINAGAR, JULY 24 – Governor, N. N. Vohra and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Thursday presented State Awards and Chief Minister’s Gold Medals to as many as 71 recipients in different categories for the years 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 at the Investiture Ceremony organized by General Administration Department, Jammu and Kashmir Government at SKICC here. The Governor presented State Awards in different categories to 57 recipients while the Chief Minister awarded Gold Medals and Tabinda Gani Award for Bravery to 14 awardees. The Commissioner Secretary, General Administration Department presented the award winners to the dignitaries and citations for the awardees were read out on the occasion. The recipients of State Awards for the year 2012 include renowned journalist, poet and writer Malik Bashir Athar, former Director Doordarshan and Radio News. Abdul Latief for Bravery, Dr. Om Goswami for Literature, Ghulam Nabi Khayal for Achievements in the field of Literature, Deepali Wattal, Gh. Nabi Bulbul and Triloke Koul for performing arts, Nazir Ahmad Mir and Manzoor Ahmed Naqashgir for Excellence in Arts and Crafts, Ladakh Heart Foundation Society, Leh for Social Reforms and Empowerment, Madhav Lal, Tanveer Jehan, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Prof. S. Jalal (Posthumously) and Uttar Kumar Padha for Meritorious Public Service, Ved Rahi for Life Time Achievement, Ujjwal Gupta and Adil Mohi-ud-Din for Outstanding Sports Person, Ashok Jailkhani, Sanjit Khajuria, Bashir Manzar, Javid Malik, Sameer Arshad, Maneesh Chibber, Kashmir News Service, Mohinder Verma, and Aurangzeb Naqshbandi were also awarded. The recipients of State Awards for the year 2013 are Vivek Kumar for Bravery, Ghulam Nabi Firaq for Literature, Narsingh Dev Jamwal and Ali Mohammad for Performing Arts, Syed Amjad Ali for Excellence in Arts and Crafts, Parvez Rasool Zargar for Outstanding Sports Person, Atal Dulloo, Showkat Ahmad Mir, Sushil Kumar Sharma and Dr. Mohammad Saleem Wani for Meritorious Public Service, Sham Koul, Bashir Ahmad Sofi and S. P. Sharma for Outstanding Media Person. The recipients of State Awards for the year 2014 are Gh. Rasool Tak (Posthumously) and Akhil Singh (Posthumously) for Bravery, G. N. Gauhar for Literature, Rashid Haafiz and Suraj Singh for Performing Arts, Majid Ahmad Mir for Excellence in Arts and Crafts, Dr. Mohammad Ishaq Wani, Shahzada Bilal Ahmad, Dr. Shakti Gupta and Dr. Anil Gupta for Meritorious Public Service, Padma Sachdev for Life Time Achievement, Atul Pangotra, Rashid Ahmad Choudhary, Rita Devi Zakariya Yaseen Bhat and Shubham Khajuria for Outstanding Sports Person and Vivek Sharma for Outstanding Media Person. The Chief Minister’s Gold Medal for Honesty, Integrity and Meritorious Public Service were awarded to Suresh Kumar, Mohammad Sayeed Khan, Sudarshan Sharma, Zaffar Ahmed Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmed Mir, Dr. Ghulam Hassan Shah for the year 2011 and Umang Narula, Farooq Ahmed Peer, Irfan Yaseen, Rashim Kashyap and Mushtaq Ahmad Lone for the year 2012. Tabinda Gani State Award of Bravery for Children for the year 2012 were awarded to Mohammad Vasat, Muzamil Masood Ganie and Abdul Aziz Sofi. Malik Bashir Athar – an introduction Malik Bashir Athar, former Director News, Doordarshan Kendra and Radio Kashmir, Srinagar has been covering important news relating to politics, militancy, crime, legislature, education and healthcare in State in a highly professional manner. Malik produced and directed about 1000 current affairs programmes during the last 20 years’ situation in Kashmir. He has the honour to accompany the President of India and different Prime Ministers of India to cover their tours in Iran, France, America, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Poland, Spain, Nigeria and South Africa. He is the recipient of three Doordarshan Annual Awards for best performance in the field of Journalism. Writer of several books in Kashmiri, Urdu, and Hindi, Malik Bashir Athar, A versatile journalist was first to break the news of Kargil incursion, massive destruction in 2005 earthquake in Baramulla, Amarnath Tragedy, Waltangoo-nar snow storm, Leh flood tragedy, white blood found in a child at Jaipur and several other stories which caught the attention of international media and won awards for Doordarshan besides giving credit to it on international media. A short story writer, poet and critic, he has earned laurels and his poetry has been translated in several languages including English, Hindi, French and other foreign languages. His poems were adjudged the best foreign language poems for three months on an on-line magazine in Great Britain. His songs are full of life depicting the pain and agony of human existence besides master pieces of romanticism which are very popular in general masses as well as in literary circles In recognition of his outstanding contribution as a journalist, the State Government confers on Sh. Malik Bashir Athar, the State Award for Outstanding Media Person for the year 2012.
