Governor Jang’s counsels cause confusion in court over Nigeria Governors Forum crisis. Two lawyers filed different papers to represent Mr. Jang in court. The confusion in the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, also reared its head at an Abuja court as two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, filed separate papers to defend Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang. Paul Erokoro and Tayo Oyetibo, both Senior Advocates, filed different sets of processes claiming to represent Mr. Jang, who heads a faction of the NGF. The suit was instituted by the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, who was represented in court on Tuesday by a team of lawyers led by Yemi Osinbajo and Femi Falana, both Senior Advocates. The Director General of the NGF, Asishana Okauru, was represented by Awa Kalu. Mr. Fashola wants the court to bar the Plateau governor from parading himself as the NGF chairman. Mr. Jang had lost the chairmanship election in May to Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers by 16 votes to 19. He, however, rejected the result and instead proclaimed himself chairman of the forum. Following the confusion in court on Tuesday, Mr. Fashola’s lawyer told the court that Mr. Jang, through his different counsels and submissions, was causing confusion in the court as he was causing in the NGF. The Lagos Governor’s lawyer asked the judge, Peter Afeen, to strike out the preliminary objections filed by both lawyers (to Mr. Jang) to allow the case to proceed. The judge refused to strike out the papers but advised Mr. Jang’s lawyers to put their house in order before the next hearing date. He then adjourned the suit to July 3.
