Laments Demise of former ASUU President, Professor Festus Iyayi Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has condoled his Katsina State counterpart, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema over the death of his father, Alhaji Shehu Shema, 86, who died at the National Hospital, Abuja. The governor also lamented the tragic death of the former President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Festus Iyayi, who died in a motor accident along Lokoja-Abuja highway on Tuesday while on a national assignment to Kano State. In separate statements signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, Governor Orji said he received the news of the deaths of Alhaji Shehu Shema and Professor Festus Iyayi with shock and disbelief. Governor Orji who told Governor Shema to be strong in spirit, urged his Katsina counterpart to see his fathers death as an act of God noting that the deceased while alive left behind enduring legacies that he would be remembered forever. Though the loss of ones father is painful but you see it as something allowed by God Almighty. Your father who was a well known farmer and community leader used his hard-earned resources to better the lives of many in the society. I personally feel your loss at this time but I know that God will give you and members of your family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. On behalf of my family, government and the people of Abia State, please accept our condolences. May the gentle soul of the departed rest in perfect peace. Also, Governor Orji who expressed shock over the tragic death of Professor Iyayi described the deceased as a fine gentleman who he said used his Gods given intellect to reengineer the countrys education sector. I cannot believe that Professor Festus Iyayi is no more. He believed in the Nigerian project. He died in active service while on a national assignment. My heart felt sympathy go to his immediate family whom he left behind. I urge the university community to see his death as a national sacrifice. May his soul rest in peace.
