Govt Committed To Boosting Cassava Production –Muoboghare Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare has expressed the readiness of the State Government to rekindle the production of cassava in the State. Prof. Muoboghare gave this assurance in Asaba, when the Nigeria Cassava Growers Association, Ukwuani Local Government Chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office. He said that in order to actualise the vision, the ministry would ensure that farm implements as well as tractors for proper mechanised farming in their areas would be made available. The commissioner reiterated the State Government’s commitment in the areas of encouraging farmers by subsidising the prize of farming implements as well as the provision of seedlings, high breed cassava stems amongst others. Prof. Muoboghare further stated that it was the responsibility of the farmers to farm, while the State Government would assist when necessary. He commended the group for engaging in genuine farming, particularly at a time when white collar jobs was not readily available. He called on the group to always call on him whenever the need arose as he would operate an open door policy in order to further cement their harmonious relations, even as he promised to visit their farms to have a first-hand interaction with them while working. Earlier, the Chairman, Mr. Pius Nwaibu whose speech was read by the Administrative Secretary of the Association, Evangelist Patrick Maduasowe thanked the commissioner for his support to the farmers in the State. Nwaibu appealed to the ministry to provide their members with farming tools such as tractors, high yielding cassava stems and financial support to enable them produce enough cassava for the teeming population. He equally called on the commissioner to pay special visits to their cassava farms to see what they have been doing in their farms.
