‘Govt implicating Kashmiris on frivolous charges: Geelani ‘Suppression can’t deter our resolve’ Srinagar, Sept 22: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday said the invocation of PSA and conviction of pro-freedom leaders and youth could not prevent Kashmiris from pursuing ongoing struggle for right to self- determination. “Omar Abdullah led administration has in practice and virtually imposed an unannounced ban on our organization,” Geelani said in a statement. Commenting over the court verdict, in which Tehsil President of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Nasir Abdullah of Palhallan was acquitted from all allegations and murder case, Geelani termed it is an important development. “It (court verdict) is a victory for those who follow the right path and defeat for those who follow false assumption. It has put a big question for Omar Abdullah (Chief Minister) for his heinous and terror policy he follows against the innocents,” Geelani said. “Authorities had designed a plot to ban the political activities of Tehreek e Hurriyat. Nasir was arrested by police on August 11, 2012 and next day DIG police north Kashmir in a press conference had allegedly involved him in killing of a Sarpanch and had claimed that police has a sufficient proof against the accused. The allegations were serious enough and the motive was to ban the political activities of Tehreek-e- Hurriyat,” Geelani claimed. “However, police failed to prove it and in court findings the case was proved to be unfounded and thus acquitted from all allegations. Police had claimed and framed the charge sheet against the duo saying that Nasir Abdullah and Muzaffar Ahmad had plotted a conspiracy and assisted in the killing of a Sarpanch,” Geelani said. “We had refuted and challenged the charges in a press conference. The duo was still booked under fake cases in the Section 302, 120B and 2/27. Government has declared a war against Tehreek- e- Hurriyat and are implicating our activists and leaders in false case,” he said. Geelani accused the government of launching a campaign to frame innocent youth. “Hundreds of citizens are languishing in jails under false and baseless cases. In most of these cases, the accused are not presented in court for hearing thus prolonging their illegal detention,” he said. He demanded immediate release of separatists, Masarat Alam Butt, Mir Hafiz Ullah, Muhammad Maqbool (Chadoora), Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, Nisar Hussain Rather and Ashfaq Ahmed ( Pantha Chowk). Geelani alleged the jail inmates are subjected to “ill-treatment at the hands of jail authorities. “The food items provided them are of sub-standard quality and no medical facilities are being provided to the ailing detenues,” he said. “I want to reiterate that covert tactics of police won’t deter us or Kashmiris from perusing the goal. We will strive until were achieve right to self-determination,” he said. Geelani appealed Amnesty International to take notice of the plight of Kashmiri detainees and ensure their immediate release.
