Govt. orders probe on AAP funding. Here are a few things you may want to know: 1. NRIs funding a political party is completely legal. 2. After 2008 Mumbai attacks as a measure to curb illegal funding of terrorist orgs, govt. ordered banks to retain a photocopy of passports of the donors to certain types of NGOs including political parties. 3. When I transferred money through ICICI money2india to Lok Satta party, ICICI put my transfer order on hold until I furnished a copy of my passport front page showing its validity. 4. When you apply for the citizenship of other countries, it is required that you surrender your Indian passport wherever dual citizenship is not allowed 5. If someone didnt surrender their passport and falsified to the bank, it is the fault of the donor, not the recipient as the recipient has no means of finding the credibility of the donors nationality 6. A foreign national can gift any amount of money to an Indian national providing he/she pays the required tax on the amount. Now the Indian national can take this money and fund a political party in India and that would be completely legal, as now the received money is the property of the Indian national. In essence, it is mostly impossible for a foreign national to fund a political party in India through legitimate bank transfers and even if they somehow manage to falsify documents, AAP cannot be blamed. And AAP accepts only legitimate bank transfers. So this probe is a politically motivated one at the expense of tax payers money.
