Govt using Israeli tactics to choke peopl Peoples Conference chairman Sajjad Gani Lone on Saturday said the continuous curfew in south Kashmir’s Shopian district is part of a ‘systemic design of depriving the populace their means of economic survival’. Terming the imposition of curfew akin to the ‘tactics’ used by Israel in Palestine, Lone, according to a party spokesman said; “Just as the Israel’s aim is to hurt the Palestinians both emotionally and economically through the destruction of their olive harvests the curfew imposed in Shopian at a time when the harvest season is at its zenith and ripe apples are exposed to rotting due to the prolonged curfew; the forces are trying to inflict the same oppression on the Kashmiris’. “The continuous imposition of curfew in the town depriving the inhabitants of basic means of survival is not only violation of the people’s basic human rights but also part of a systemic design of depriving the populace of their means of economic survival,” Lone stated. He said this was a crucial step in disempowering the Kashmiris and a link in the larger game-plan of showing Kashmiri’s ‘their true place’. Lone said the present NC-led coalition government has total disregard of the sanctity of human life. “The tragic part is that sooner or later Shopian will be buried in the din of an utterly cruel and cacophonous polity. This is the rule not the exception for all incidents of human rights violations in Kashmir. The chronology is predictable. The government of the day will announce eyewash enquiry and the opposition will score its own brownie points by taking credit for announcement of the inquiry and wait for the next incident of loss of Kashmiri lives,” he said. Coming down heavily on political parties, Lone said the National Conference, the PDP and the Congress have all perfected the “theatrical performances of playing the aggressor or the aggrieved, depending whether they are the opposition or the ruling party.” “The first step towards this end is to separate the ‘pretenders’ from the actual mourners – to identify and purge those elements who have traditionally played with our blood in times of adversity only to return as messiah’s once the blood-fest that they facilitated, settled down,” he said. Lone said ‘as long as the engineered monopoly of the two oligarchies namely NC and PDP continues so will the dance macabre of the common Kashmiri
