Govt will give pension to unorganised transport workers: State government has started providing pension to the unorganised transport workers, state labour minister, Mr Purnendu Bose, said today. He had said earlier that construction workers were eligible to receiving pension and the same scheme has also been implemented for unorganised transport workers. An unorganised sector worker will get monthly pension from Rs 750 to Rs 1120 (according to his salary) after he took retirement from his job but his age should be 60 years and above. Transport workers have to deposit Rs 30 each year at least before five years of his retirement. Around 13 lakhs beneficiaries were identified who will get pension facilities. He said transport workers would also get other facilities including provident fund if they would be registered for the pension scheme. Pensioners could visit the tourist spots and could stay at the lodges of the state labour department. The state labour department has also organised a camp at Chakdah Pragati Sangha Maidan today for unorganised sector workers to raise awareness on social security scheme. Mr Bose inaugurated the camp. Around 18359 labourers were given financial aid worth Rs 5.5 crore. Construction labourers were given cycles, said Mr Bitan Dey, assistant labour commissioner. He said around 4000 handloom workers were given provident fund benefits and more handloom workers will be given provident fund scheme.
