Grab a seat...long post ahead. So yesterday was epic. Started the day outside of Kanab in a sweet little pine grove campground. Drove into Kanab to finish checking out Best Friends Animal Society. My lord people, its big...its at the bottom of a canyon and then all up at the top. I missed the whole top part the first time through. I took a bunch of pictures and will get those up tomorrow probably. The place, to me, IN MY OPINION, has the feel of a cult-driven organization. Not saying thats a bad thing...they are saving animals and thats all that matters. But it has that essence of off about it. So somewhat late in the day we headed for Zion, via the south entrance at Mt. Carmel. Immediately upon entry its oh..Wow, omg, wow, OMG, OMG, OMG! These explanations all accompanied by a sense of awe at the beauty of the road. The road is dyed, its beautiful National Park Service brown. Its like following the yellow brick road. Only its brown. OMG, look, OMG, look (keep in mind Im talking to a dog who cant see out the window.) And then you come to the tunnel. I knew there was a tunnel, I was expecting a tunnel. I was not, however expecting a hundred mile long tunnel. What a tunnel it is (give or take 99 1/2 miles). In a daze you emerge from the tunnel and youre at the top of a canyon and theres this little narrow windy road to the bottom. And then I got lost, a task virtually impossible to accomplish, theres only one road...but, I came to the campgrounds, as expected they were full. So my task is now to find us a place to stay. I come next to the phooey overpriced town of Springdale. Not for us. Were poor, Ive been wearing the same clothes for a year now and Im traveling with a dog who daily digs holes and buries herself. Were not the folks fine inns like to see on their doorsteps. So off we go...leaving Zion, missed the canyon completely, will return another year...the exit to Zion finds you on the hottest, part of Utah. Aint no camping here...Theres supposed to be camping in Hurricane. Hurricane turns out to be a TOWN...ick, plan D, north to Cedar City, find small road which two miles later turns into I-15...which has a speed limit of 80. My little house on wheels might hit 55 if were going directly downhill...after being propelled from a cannon. Long story short (too late, I know) I find this lovely campground up in Cedar Canyon, complete with a running stream for Shasta. Best news yet...at 9000 feet it was delightfully chilly. So how was your day?
