Grab your walking boots! Monmouthshire Walking Festival kicks off - TopicsExpress

Grab your walking boots! Monmouthshire Walking Festival kicks off tomorrow and runs until 2nd November 2014. Monmouthshire is a stunningly beautiful county, and in this centenary year of World War I, you can join them as they commemorate the Great War and World War II and pay tribute to the people and places of Monmouthshire who played their part in these events and other conflicts. In keeping with the commemoration of World War II, theres a circular walk on Monday 27th October that will take you to Keepers Pond - which is pictured below - via Foxhunter’s grave then on to World War II guerilla depot and hideout to Blorenge summit descending via tramroad to Garnddyrus abandoned village. Monmouthshire has over a 1,000 miles of footpaths crisscrossing the county and 7 long distance trails which take you through a landscape of stark contrasts: flat coastal wetlands of the Gwent Levels; picturesque mountains in the north, Brecon Beacons National Park; the Wye Valley an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the peaceful rolling farmland of the Usk and Monnow valleys.
