Grace Under Pressure by Rush is one of the darkest albums I own. Rather than an over-inflated, inaccessible, unrelatable high-brow concept album as theyd done repeatedly before, the album instead loosely tells a story from a broad perspective of the human race. Conceived amidst the highest of Cold War tensions, the album brings up issues such as distrust of people around us, causing us to view them as enemies, to concentration camps, to the end of civilization. And this is just the lyrics. Musically the band is tight and solid. While keyboards normally give a corny, 80s-pop flavor, here they instead are actually downright haunting and dystopian, with the guitar adding further layers of crushing oppression. With every note they play, I utterly believe not only that what the album describes has happened before, but that its only a matter of time before it happens again, or as the final song describes: ...We can go from boom to bust From dreams to a bowl of dust We can fall from the rockets red glare Down to Brother, can you spare… Another war, Another wasteland, And another lost generation... https://youtube/watch?v=ZGasaah8lrw
